Bulk Metal® Foil technology provides very low temperature coefficient of resistance (TCR) and exceptional long-term stability even in extreme temperatures. The devices provide a wide range of resistance values, including any specific resistance value within their given ranges. Unlike thin film or wirewound resistors, Bulk Metal Foil resistors owe their superior precision to the use of a special alloy foil, with a thickness of several microns, as the resistive element. Use of this metal foil as the resistance element provides superior performance not found in any other resistor technology. In particular the temperature coefficient of resistance (TCR) has been reduced to an unprecedented, extremely low levels thanks to strict quality control of the alloy composition and a newly developed foil stabilization treatment technology.
New Featured Product! VPG Now Offers Ultra-High-Precision Wraparound Resistors With Gold-Plated Terminals for High-Temperature Applications to +225 °C
To meet the growing demand for precise, stable, and reliable resistors that can operate in harsh environments, VPG Foil Resistors introduced a new series of ultra-high-precision Z1 Foil Technology wraparound surface-mount chip resistors designed for high-temperature applications to +225 °C. Featuring gold-plated terminals for design flexibility, FRSG Series devices offer low TCR of ±2.5 ppm/°C maximum from -55 °C to +200 °C, +25 °C ref.; tight tolerances to ±0.01%; and load-life stability to ±0.1% after 2,000 hours of working power at 200 °C.
Optimized for down-hole drilling, oil and gas exploration, and avionics, military, and space (AMS) applications, the resistors released today offer a resistance range from 10 Ω to 125 kΩ, with any conceivable ohmic value within this range — to six digits — available with no additional cost or lead time effect. Available in six case sizes from 0603 to 2512, the devices provide working power to 750 mW at +70 °C and 300 mW at +200 °C. The resistors feature a rise time of 1 ns with effectively no ringing, a thermal stabilization time of <1 s (within 10 ppm of steady state value), current noise of ≤0.010 μVrms/V of applied voltage (<-40 dB), and a voltage coefficient of <0.1 ppm/V. Offering the utmost in ESD immunity, the RoHS-compliant devices withstand electrostatic discharges of at least 25 kV for increased reliability and offer a non-inductive (<0.08 μH), non-capacitive design.
